My name is Petronella Lugemwa.  I was born in a tiny village in Uganda and grew up in Zimbabwe.  Read my full story here.

When I was 10, my family moved to the United States (Alabama) in search of a better life.  Growing up in the States, I felt I had to hide my cultural identity to fit in.  

Over the years, I’ve learned not only to be proud of what I’ve achieved in America (UVa chemical engineering degree, Kellogg MBA and having amazing friends) but to also embrace and celebrate my Ugandan heritage as a big part of who I am personally and professionally.

I believe who you are and your cultural heritage are beautiful.  My photographs, which have been featured in Munaluchi and Style Me Pretty, celebrate who you are, your heritage and family beautifully.
