Las Vegas | WPPI 2012

I’m baaacck from Vegas!
I had grand plans to blog every day about the people, sights, sounds, everything, but with sooo much to take in, I didn’t blog at all last week, so here’s a mini recap.
When I first arrived in Las Vegas, I felt like I’d been hit by a truck, which was surprising because I usually bounce back very quickly from travel, even to places with a 12hr time zone difference. I arrived late Saturday night after a long plane ride spent circling the air for hours because the weather was too turbulent to land. When I got to my hotel room, all I wanted to do was transform into Sleeping Beauty for a few days.
But thanks to the bright lights of Vegas, good friends (so grateful for you) and the sheer excitement of attending my first WPPI conference gave me that extra boost to really take advantage of every moment at WPPI. From inspirational talks from well known global photographers, to discovering new technology and tools at the trade show to making new friends, WPPI was a really great experience and worth every penny.
It was my first Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) conference or (wippee, what my sister affectionately but incorrectly calls it). WPPI is a week long conference that brings together ~16,000 photographers from all over the world for education, networking, trade show and lots of fun. Photographers know how to get down. My focus for the conference was to take notes, learn as much as possible and make new friends, so I didn’t bring my camera to any events, but I did manage to snap a few photos through my hotel room curtains at the MGM Grand.
The photo below is of me taking a picture of the reflection in the hotel window.

MGM Grand is truly grand: it’s like a giant outlet super mall, so big that it took me 8,000 steps one way to get from my room to the WPPI convention center every day. Also I’d read the “how to prepare for WPPI” blogs posts, so I opted for comfort and not style and wore cute Crocs and Born shoes.

Somewhere in the distance, a faux Disneyland…
