FAMILY FORMALS QUESTIONNAIRE

From past client conversations, I've discovered

that some of the most meaningful wedding weddings photos are those with your family.

We enjoy capturing candid & formal family photos, but need your help understanding who matters most to you.

I recommend sharing your Family Shot List at least 14 days before your wedding date.

What to Expect

Sometimes, setting up family formals can get hectic without proper communication, organization and assistance identifying and gathering key people together.

Share specific names to help the team and your family shot coordinators gather people faster.

Every so often, take a moment to breathe and be grateful; your people are here for you and wish you all the best.

The best time to gather family & friends together for a shot is immediately after the ceremony. We advise taking all formals before the reception or dinner when everyone looks their best.

Please inform all your family members in advance of when and where photos will be taken so everyone is ready & available at the same time to take photos?

We Consider

What we consider when setting up the family formal portrait shots

Larger groups will be photographed first so people don’t get antsy waiting to be photographed.

Any older people or people who need extra assistance will be photographed first

Let us know if there are any family situations with strained relationships or physical/mental limitations

Most people get antsy after 15min of photos, so we recommend keeping the list concise or letting people know what to expect in advance

Share the specific names of family members & how they are related to you at least 14 days in advance; this helps us stay organized and personalize the family portrait experience by calling people’s names vs “hey you”

Identification

How we identify and gather family members

Since we don’t know everyone, we rely on the family coordinators you’ve chosen to identify and assist with gathering key people together for all the requested photos.

How Much Time?

Family portraits usually take place after the ceremony & during cocktail hour. I strongly advise doing a first look to ensure you have time to enjoy your cocktail hour. Without a first look, we'll have to take all the photos: family portraits + couple + bridal party photos during cocktail hour.

Here is a sample family photo list to help you think through who you’d like photos with.

1. Everyone - all the key people including aunts + cousins

2. Couple + Grandparents

3. Couple + 2 Families (parents + siblings)

4.1 Couple + Partner A Parents
4.2 Couple + Partner B Parents

5.1 Partner A + their parents
5.2 Partner B + their parents

6.1 Partner A + their parents + siblings

6.2 Partner B + their parents + siblings

7.1 Partner A + mom

7.2 Partner B + mom

8.1 Partner A + dad

8.2 Partner B + dad
