My first real camera.
When I hold this baby…. my heart stops.
I recently asked my father if he still had it, a 35mm Mamiya 500DTL… film camera, the one I used to “borrow” from him unknowningly and shoot any and everything.
When he came back with it, I had to have a moment to myself…
This camera represents so much to me. I’m naturally an observer, and growing up, I loved observing and taking pictures of life happening. So as a high school kid, life was running drills in gym class, portraits of the neighborhood kids hanging out, waiting outside on the brick wall for my mother to come pick up my sister and I from school and playing in the grass. Oh, if this camera could talk, it would have soooo much to say.
I’m pretty sure it’s now a collector’s item, but it’s not for sale. Even with some cracks and dust, to me it’s worth more than all the money in the world.

Remember when you had to crank up the dial after inserting the film?
