A few weekends ago, I tweeted: “Just arrived in DC. Flowers, check. About to surprise my best friend. Hope she doesn’t see this in the next 5min. #Operation30thBday ”
At the time, Operation 30th Birthday was in full swing and almost got thwarted a couple of times, but thanks to my best friend’s husband and her brother, it won’t off without a hitch. Thanks fellas!
I bought a Friday train ticket to Washington DC and emailed the itinerary to my friend asking her to pick me up Friday morning. Then, I immediately cancelled it and rebooked a Thursday night Amtrak ticket. Meanwhile her husband and I schemed about how to surprise her. Pat’s very smart and intuitive, so we really had to make sure this operation was airtight, right down to why he chose the exquisite Bistro Bis restaurant, located across the street from Washington Union station. Luckily, her husband knows her so well that he was able to smoothly keep her guard down for months. I supported the ruse by texting her every so often: “Can’t wait to see you on FRIDAY.”
Happy birthday to my best friend, who has been there for me all these years, always cheering me on. Love you girl!
