The Photography Shoes I Wear during a Session

I’m flat footed… which means lugging around my photography equipment is even more demanding on my body & feet… which is why I’m always on the hunt for comfortable, supportive yet STYLISH shoes. When I’m on a shoot, I want to be comfortable and nimble but more importantly, I want to look stylish.

Sadly, for awhile instead of outright wearing gym shoes, I used to rock these Rocket Dog semi-sneakers.  My reasoning: they didn’t quite look like gym shoes but they offered enough support to make it through shoots.  Style-wise… lacking and they never matched my all black attire.  Can you tell how much I’ve worn them?

When I was asked to photograph  a semi-formal event, I knew I couldn’t wear my Rocket Dog sneakers, so I chose my 3.5in Michael Kors platform heels.  For awhile, I looked good but when I needed to quickly get on my knees and back up, I was too slow to get the shots and then there was the PAIN!  After 1 hour, I unconsciously tossed them aside and walked around in a black pair of flats.  Love Michael Kors but not practical.

The other day I came across these Kate Spade flats & fell in love.  They have rubber soles so lots of bounce, flex and support to get the shot.  Everything I love in a cute shoe   & check out the pearl ribbon detail.  Yummy!  They’re also perfect for my engagement sessions.

Still, I needed another pair of stylish everyday casual shoots.  I asked so many people and tried on sooo many flats: some looked cute enough but after a few hours, my flat footed feet would protest.

The day before Thanksgiving, I was on the subway when I saw this lady wearing red suede Yosi Samra flats and she looked so at ease, I had to ask.  She told me they were Yosi Samra and 2 days later, I had placed an order.  They were everything she said & more.  They feel like you’re wearing nothing and a have 2 rubber soles at the front and back, so they’re flexible.  I wear them everywhere and everyone always asks me where I got them.
