If you’re looking to get married in Mérida at an intimate, luxury colonial hotel or if you’re having a larger wedding at a hacienda, get ready with close family & friends at a historic home, the best place by far is Casa Lecanda.  This historic luxury boutique hotel offers a truly authentic Yucatán boutique hotel experience and the staff makes you feel right at home!  If you travel the world as often as I do, you’ll discover that Casa Lecanda‘s colonial charm and award-winning service offers one of the best hotel experiences rates in Mérida. Here are 5 amazing reasons why couples choose to get married at Casa Lecanda.

An Authentic Luxury Yucatan Experience

Casa Lecanda is located in Mérida , Mexico, which is a peaceful and historical city located in the Yucatan peninsula. Distinguished sightseers love to stop off at Casa Lecanda because it is a mere 2 blocks from the notable Paseo Montejo, home to many of Mérida’s iconic buildings and monuments. Mérida’s International Airport (Airport code: MID) is only 15 minutes away, making this authentic Mexican hotel, not too difficult to get to by the average traveler.

The Architecture and Decor

Getting married at Casa Lecanda is like getting married at home, an old Mexican Colonial home with all the comforts of modern life. The original Casa Lecanda was a 19th century Colonial home. It was ruined, but the owners together with exclusive and local artisans restored it authentically, using original materials and elements, and the hotel opened for business in 2012. The hotel’s high ceilings and massive walls speak of its earlier age, and the interior design and furniture refer back to its historical Meridian environment. The architecture speaks of its authenticity in every elegant archway and each unique clay floor tile. Authenticity is one of the themes of my life, and when I am doing a photography shoot at Casa Lecanda, I am in my element, fully enjoying how Mexican heritage is brought to life in every piece of decor found everywhere on the property. Love is in the details, and there are oh-so-many lovely details!

The Luxury of Intimacy

This small boutique hotel may be old and historical, but it’s also very luxurious. Just imagine a patio outside your room nestled into the tropical vegetation, slung with authentic Meridian hammocks. Your room (one of only seven) has been decorated with custom crafted furniture, the floors are made of clay tile, and the doors and windows are restored, and it has a fragrant Coqui Coqui scent. Each room is uniquely designed and named after a member of the Lecanda family. I stayed in the exquisite Ana. Each room also has air-conditioning, a minibar, television with cable, and Wi-Fi internet access. Though the conveniences are modern, nothing seems out of place in this unique hotel designed to adapt the original colonial Casa Lecanda intimacy within a modern luxury hotel setting.

Culinary Delights

Mexican cuisine is loved by many, probably because there is so much wonderful variety in the food! The hotel has a private kitchen with most meals being freshly made right on the property including freshly pressed fruit juices and homemade breads.

A wedding at Casa Lecanda includes traditional Mexican and Yucatán cuisine served by a renowned chef. Dinners at Casa Lecanda are set up in the hotel’s dining room using the hotel’s original furniture. A single long table will seat a maximum of 16 people. If the tables are separated, then a dinner can be served to 22 people, maximum.

Cocktails can be served in two areas of the hotel: the ground floor and the rooftop. The full rooftop terrace can hold 120 people.  To get an idea of the cost, renting the full terrace for 50-120 guests without renting the rooms in the hotel costs $15,000. Definitely worth the authentic Mexican experience!

Award-Winning Service

When I met with the staff at Casa Lecanda, I was so pleased with their eagerness to meet my needs, especially my need to relax! I find their staff of 16+ to be very protective of their guests’ privacy. In fact, the hotel is designed so that outside guests up on the rooftop cannot access their guests’ areas. If a couple wants absolute privacy at their wedding, they can buy out all seven of the guest rooms.

Unfortunately, if pets or children under the age of 16 are part of your wedding plans, you need to know that they are not allowed in the hotel. It is an adult-only property.

A wedding event at Casa Lecanda includes standard amenities, such as furniture, servers, a bar, candles and floral arrangements.  Pretty much, whatever you dream up, they’ll figure out how to make it happen for you. It also provides some extra services, including an event coordinator, a Yucatecan Trio, DJ service, a saxophonist, all white flowers to commemorate the wedding, and valet parking service. Overall, the hotel provides wonderful and accommodating service to go along with their exclusive and quiet Mexican atmosphere.

Don’t take my word for it! In 2017, Casa Lecanda was among the “accommodation category” winners for the 100 Imperdibles de Mexico, which means  “you cannot miss.” This year, they are honored to be nominated for Travel and Leisure’s 2018 World’s Best! Will they win? We’ll find out in August, when the results come out. In my book, Casa Lecanda truly is one of the world’s best authentic Mexican cultural wedding venues.
