I’m so at peace when I return to my birthplace of Uganda. There’s no pressure to try to be more than just yourself, and it’s a wonderful feeling at least for the majority of the time. The other times, I’m a little frustrated because the internet is slow-er than dial-up internet (remember that?), traffic is like New York traffic x50 with many people, dust, cars, boda bodas (motorcyles) and the random cow stubbornly sitting in the middle of the busy streets.
Despite all the city excitement, it’s still home, and every time I’m there, I’m reminded about how little you really need to be happy, just the basics: food, water, some clothes and a place to sleep… everything else is a luxury.
