In the fall of last year, life was happening…
but I was missing out on the moments because I was just running as fast as I could in many directions.
After making and launching my promotional video on Thanksgiving and being called out by a few friends, I decided to hit the reset button, really look at all the stuff happening in my life and filter and focus only on what mattered. During that month, it was hard to turn away requests to go out for dinners, travel to fun places to visit friends… but I needed to rest and recharge. My skin had broken out, and I had gained weight. I deliberately spent a boring New Year’s weekend just lounging around the house, waking up early to go to the gym, doing n-o-t-h-i-n-g.
It was hard; I like to be busy. I like to feel like I’m always moving forward, but at that time, it was the best decision. And my good friends and family still love me, even if I had to stay away for a bit. I’m now energized and have a greater sense of clarity; a daily challenge to not get swept away in always “doing”.
Running on adrenaline and crazy busy energy feels productive, but long term, it’s unhealthy and you miss the “present” in the present. So I’m making an effort to slow down and be present for each moment. Life is so much sweeter.
Here’s a self portrait from the fall, unretouched so you can see me just as I was.
Last week, there were a lot of BIG life changes, and after trying to manage it all myself, I decided to surrender to God’s will and love. I’m so grateful for Him and the love and support of close friends and family.
This week, I’m in Bermuda, partly to recharge and hit the reset button. I look forward to sharing photos and stories from there.

Oh Petronella! I just stumbled across your blog via MTH. I don’t really know what to say but that this post touched me so much: raw & authentic. Thank you for sharing your heart, truly. xoxo Bethany
Bethany, your comment totally made my day. It was hard to put it all out there but so refreshing not to hold it all in. Hope to catch up with you in person one day! xoxo
