This quote from the 2004 movie: “Shall We Dance” is framed in yellow and displayed on a bookshelf at my sister and brother-in-law’s home.
I love all of it because it captures the essence of love, marriage and what we all seek: to be seen and know that who we are matters.
Many years ago when I needed to clear my head and think through my life (à la Eat, Pray, Love), I took a solo trip to one of the most beautiful places in the world Greece. It was stunning gorgeous, but I remember watching the sun set and thinking: this is beautiful but how much better would it be if I could share this wonder with my best friend. It was a DEEP thought that really made me think about the meaning of life, love and friendships.
Marriage is a promise to be a witness and to care about everything…
I can’t wait for you to meet that best friend because it is amazing when that person can finish your thoughts, give you what you want before you ask for it and simply complete your life in every way. I hope to be there to celebrate that moment with you.
