To my family,
you have been there for me every step of the way from a tiny village in Uganda, through the good and the bad times. You tell me often how proud you are of me and encourage me to be a better version of myself. You call me out on my stuff but in a gentle, humorous way that allows me to Stop. Think and Grow.
When I’m uncertain about the future, you tell me funny stories of “little me” that remind me of how far I’ve come and inspire me. Even when I’m stressed or busy, you’re reached out to check in on how I’m doing. When I’ve accomplished anything (BIG or teenie weenie), you take time to celebrate with me and it makes me feel loved. Your words and actions constantly reaffirm your love and support. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, taking time to check in with you is a priority for me.
I still bask in the glow of my all month long 30th birthday celebration and the personal gifts that you pulled together. WOW. I get emotional thinking about it.
Thank you for loving me even when I’m not behaving lovably. That’s true love and it means the world to me.
To my closest friends,
thank you for sticking by me all these years and being there for me, through the really fun times and those blah times. For listening to me, my travel stories: however silly, short or repetitive.
For allowing me to see YOU uninhibited/ vulnerable/ exhausted/ overjoyed/ broken/ angry/ faithful/ excited/comfortable in your own skin… everything. Who you are and what you share inspires me. For your patience and love.
For allowing me to be a witness to your beautiful life. I love you all and this Valentine’s Day; I give you my heart and soul.
With love,
Petronella
