I have a friend who made me laugh when she told me that her husband is so methodical that sometimes she just wants say, “talk faster like the Internet.” It’s funny in the moment, but we both realize that as technology becomes faster (eg: IM, on the go meals, the ability to quickly summarize a person’s life on Facebook, faster mobile and in-home Internet capabilities), we’re becoming more impatient, a society that wants life, people and dreams to happen on demand.
While in Barbados, I took photos of the Harrison’s Cave stalagmites (icicle-looking creations) and found out it takes 120 years to grow 1cm. Yes, you read correctly. 120 years – to – grow – 1cm!!!! I fell out when our tour guide told us that fact.
Lately, I’ve been praying and believing for specific dreams and opportunities to happen. It feels like torture to wait, but then I remember that patience means trusting God and being content in this season of my life because it means I’m still growing, maturing and cultivating the skills I need to receive my blessings. Things that happen quickly are usually easily forgotten and not appreciated.
I know for sure that if I got everything I wanted when I wanted it, I would miss out on a lot of blessings. The best things in my life occurred when I least expected them.
The stalagmites in Harrison’s Cave are a wondrous treasure to see and a reminder that good things come to those that wait. What a beautiful example of patience!
