Matt is a patient guy. First of all, he patiently waited exactly 5 months, 26 days & 8hrs before actively pursuing Victoria again on April 2013.
The first time he asked her to the symphony, she politely declined.
Then when it came time to propose, Victoria told him she had decided to enter the Miss Polonia Polish pageant, which was taking place in Brooklyn on the same day that he had made elaborate plans to propose to her in New York. So again he had to wait and figure out how to change his proposal plans. Luckily, he had planned the proposal together with The Heart Bandits, so changing his plans wasn’t as stressful.
It was meant to be because it all worked out in the end. Victoria said, “YES!”
How did he propose? In the evening, atop of one of New York City’s gorgeous rooftop bar with a self-written poem, flowers, champagne, and a limo.
How did you meet? In school at a student organization.
Matt is in law school and a great legal writer, succinct and concise. A few months earlier, Victoria challenged him to write a poem. That was what was in the box, a poem titled “PS You’re My Muse: Tulip” written by Matt.
When did you know he was the one? The day we started dating
What do you love about him? I love his passionate and incomparable determination in life.
What advice do you have to other guys when planning a proposal? *
Be thoughtful and remember that details matter – do something special to the both of you!

New York City is my favorite city and so he made sure to propose there!
He also spent the entire day continuously surprising me with my favorite things, like meeting Gus Fring of Breaking Bad, canoeing in Central Park, shopping for my favorite wine, and eating at the Four Seasons restaurant. It couldn’t have been any more thoughtful and romantic!

Victoria is a first generation Polish – American, so she taught me a little Polish on the rooftop that day.
Gratulacje! Matt & Victoria or “Congratulations” in Polish. Loved capturing this Polish – American surprise marriage proposal.
