“I have to make her my wife…”
said Taa as we hung out with friends at a BBQ party. He was beaming as he told me about how his girlfriend Roxy had surprised him for his birthday with a big nighttime celebration with all of his friends. From the look in his eyes, I knew it wouldn’t be long before he proposed.
A good love story starts with a high voltage friendship.
Roxy and Taa’s love story began 8 years ago with some strong sparks when they met at a party. They dated each other for awhile but soon realized they weren’t ready to take their relationship to the next level. Still over the years, they both stayed in touch, and their friendship grew stronger through major life events until one day… when they both realized that their friendship had evolved into a high voltage romantic love.
Roxy is from Jamaica and Taa is from Liberia and one of the leaders behind the non-profit One Liberia, an organization that uses a community and grassroots approach to promoting peace, leadership development and unity among Liberian youth. Together they’re a kind, stylish, fun couple. We had a good time in New York, and because of them my current two favorite songs are D’Banj’s “Fall in Love” and Popcaan’s “Only Man She Want.”
