Before we knew whether he was a boy or a girl…
Before he was born during the summer 2012, we already loved Tendo, which means “precious” in Luganda. He made his entrance into this world with one short loud yelp, then he was quiet for the rest of the day… only crying when he was changed or wanted to eat. He’s a super chill baby.
When he was in utero, my sister and brother-in-law would sing Christina Perri’s song “A Thousand Years” to Tendo.
I have died everyday waiting for you

He was born a little fellow, but from day 1 of his birthday, I was amazed at how perceptive and alert he was to the sound of my camera (as you can see from the photo above). He’d hear the click and would turn his eyes towards the camera, which allowed me to capture these special moments during his early days.
I’m so grateful I was there for his birth and took these photos because most of those sleepless days were a blur, so it’s nice to look back and remember his little mannerisms…. like how he liked to sleep with his hands straight up next to his ears regardless of if you swaddled him with his arms down.
As you can tell by the shedding skin on his toes, he was cooking in mummy’s tummy for a little longer past his due date.
We have no idea where he gets his height, but he’ll be a tall gentleman for sure.
